Culture Action Europes kampanj we are more som stödjer Europa Kommissionens programförslag Kreativa Europa har tagit fram en kampanjaffisch. Alla insamlade signaturer för Kreativa Europa är listade och en kort version av ett brandtal av Chris Torch, riktat till våra beslutsfattare. Bli inspirerard – läs hela brandtalet här nedan.
we are painters and singers and dancers and poets
we are scientists and researchers
we are students and apprentices
we are cooks and provokers
we are more than taxpayers, voters and producers
It is not an easy time we live, in our Europe today, where technical capacity tends to outrun social competence. Knowledge is powerful but we need to understand more than “how”.
we are builders and dreamers and storytellers
we are more than words, we are voices in song and bodies in movement
This plea is not a ploy to get more money to an underfinanced sector. Investing in culture, education and research will generate prosperity, no doubt. But as active and concerned citizens, we turn to you because we believe, like you, that cultural exchange brings hope and engagement.
we are more than entertainers
we are excellence and ethics
The European Commission took a small but courageous step, at a time of intense financial austerity, by proposing an increase in the cultural budget through the Creative Europe programme. The size of the increase in euros is very small; the significance of signaling an increased roll for Arts and Culture in Europe’s future is immense.
We know that democracy is a slow and careful process. We know that the European Commission’s budget proposal will be threatened from many directions. We know that economic and political compromises will be necessary.
But the step forward that the European Commission took in daring to increase the EU cultural budget cannot be undone. It is a sum too small to be an important part of any negotiated budget cuts. And it is an idea too great to be dealt away with a sigh.
We ask you to stand strong with the Creative Europe proposal and safeguard the 37% increase even in the face of potential criticism. It is an essential sign of commitment to the future of European citizens: culture, education and creative thinking, leading to sustainable prosperity for all Europeans.
We are at your service in any way, to discuss, distill and help you in this endeavor. / Culture Action Europe‘s campaing we are more supports the European Commissions programme proposal Creative Europe. To further the advocacy work a poster and a letter has been produced. Read the full letter below, written by Chris Torch, senior associate at Intercult. The poster includes all collected signatures for the campaign, to date, and a short version of the letter.
