We have started the teaching at “Al-Harah Performing Arts Training Center- PARC” on 11 September 2014. At the moment we have about 35 students in the different fields. The students come from a variety of cities, villages, refugee camps around the West Bank and Jerusalem. The first stage of the program was finished on the 14th of February 2015, and it was for five months with local trainers on the basics of each field.
As a result of this stage, the students worked in 8 groups on a model for the set, lighting, sound and costumes for the play Don Quishot. Each group presented their work for the students and the teachers. The work was impressive and the students improved fast and in a very short period of time, while they didn’t know anything about performing arts in the beginning.
The second stage will start on March for five more months with International trainers on the design level of each field.
We are looking to find internship places for our students for three months from October-Dec 2015 or from November 2015 – January 2016 in different theatres, venues, dance companies, circus companies or festivals around the world. We need to find hosts for two students together in each place or city so they can support each other.
We are asking our partners to provide accommodation and meals for the trainees and to have a mentor to follow and advise them, and we will try to cover their travel costs. Also we will follow their development with their mentor. The students are great to work with and can be a free working hand in these theatres, venues and festivals. Marina Barham, CEO, PARC.
